The Florida Association for the Study of Headache and Neurological Disorders (FLASHneuro) generates activities around the content that matches the learners current level of knowledge by addressing what they don't know, though the use of a questionnaire method utilized by our CME unit. The pre and post questionnaires utilized at the live meetings gives detailed inside into the attendees knowledge gap(s). The case studies give us insight into competence gap(s).
This helps as with planning and implementation to match the development of our content with the learners current knowledge, performance and/or competence gap(s). the CME Committee and Program Committee reviews the results and tailors the educational presentations to those need(s) identified.
The program chair and the committee designs the activity, sets overall goals, and develops measurable learning objectives that link the identified need(s) and professional practice gap(s) with the goals of the CME activity. Measurable learning objectives are written in terms of physician knowledge, competence and/or performance. Case vignettes and questions related to the case and to the objectives identified for each therapeutic are developed and presented in pre- and post-testing to evaluate improvements in knowledge, competence and/or performance. Through the processes such as those stated above, the committee examines the identified need(s) and professional practice gap(s) to help to change competence and/or performance and/or patient outcomes and prepare the overall education learning objectives to help meet the need(s).
Our educators are strongly requested to utilize case-based learning which allows for immediate feedback as it relates to what the attendees know and how well they implement the knowledge given. The organization also measures the learners performances via questionnaires designed specifically for the live activity.
The Florida Association for the Study of Headache and Neurological Disorders (FLASHneuro) plans to continue to focus on the use of live courses and live regularly scheduled monthly conferences as its chosen educational formats for delivering and achieving the objectives and desired results pertaining to closing the professional practice gap(s) in knowledge, competence and/or performance of attendees and membership. The organization has utilized the digital educational formats via the Internet in the past and is considering to revisit this educational methodology in the near future the beyond COVID19 timeline in effort to reach more members.
